CANINE FIRST AID COURSES

I am a dog owner and a First Aid trainer with a vision – to give everyone with a dog in their life the skills and confidence to act in an emergency.

There are 9 million dogs in the UK and the majority will require First Aid at least once in their life. As an owner of Hamish, a springer spaniel, I never know when an accident may happen and he will need my help.

I am confident that the skills you will learn will provide emergency care for your dogs without the need or before going to a vet. In many cases this will help to save their life.

Why do dog carers need this course?

In October 2018 DEFRA introduced new regulations to dog businesses ensuring duty of care to their dogs and now all dog businesses require canine first aid. Dog walkers should also have canine first aid certificates and carry a canine first aid kit with them on walks.

Who is this qualification for?

How long will it take?

To complete this emergency first aid at work qualification learners should expect to undertake 7 hours of learning, typically over one day, with a minimum contact time of 6 hours. 

Topics covered

A number of topics are covered including:
+ Introduction to Canine First Aid
+ Choking
+ Canine CPR (using a canine manikin)
+ Bandaging (using an injured training soft husky)
+ How pets show pain
+ Checking your pet’s health and finding out what is normal

Assessment method

There is continuous assessment through the day with practical exercises, and a final online quiz.  

Small class sizes

All of my courses have small classes, I can direct a course for a maximum of 12 candidates. There is ample space in the training room to accommodate this number of candidates. Free tea and coffee is included.
