The NRASTC – National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches
NRASTC Course Overview:
The NRASTC is a supervision and rescue qualification for teachers working on the poolside or in the water during programmed activities, such as swimming lessons. It is suitable for teachers working in a wide range of swimming pools, including pools where the water is deeper than the teacher’s standing depth.
The NRASTC certificate is valid for 2 years from the date of successful completion of the course.

The course requires a minimum of 12 hours training and requires 100% attendance.
Various methods of delivery are used through the course including:
- PowerPoint Presentations
- Guided Group Discussions and Activities
- Practical Demonstrations and Training
The course includes a brief introduction to the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). This is NOT a demonstration, you will be shown the correct use of an AED then you will practice and be assessed in the correct usage.
Emergency First Aid at Work can be integrated with the course, but the training hours would be extended. See below for details.

The NRASTC first aid course element
In the course the following first aid you will learn various methods of applying first aid treatment , including:
- CPR for an adult, child & infant.
- How to use an external automated defibrillator (AED) (NOT demonstration only).
- How to perform CPR on a drowning adult, child and infant.
- First aid for a choking casualty (adult, child and infant).
- How to provide first aid for external bleeding including nose bleeds.
- The treatment for a casualty suffering from shock.
NRASTC Assessment
All of my NRASTC courses are assessed by an external assessor. The assessment is through verbal questioning and practical first aid assessment both in and out of the water. I will not put you forward for assessment if I do not feel you are ready to be assessed.

Emergency First Aid at Work
If you take a face to face NRASTC course with me, the EFAW qualification can be included for an additional cost of £25.00. This usually costs £80.00 if it’s taken on its own.
All of this training can be delivered to you for £160.00 without EFAW, and £185.00 with EFAW. The NRASTC qualification lasts for 2 years, and the EFAW qualification lasts for 3 years.
Small class sizes
All of my courses have small classes, I can direct a course for a maximum of 12 candidates. There is ample space in the training room to accommodate this number of candidates. Free tea and coffee is included.
